International Doctors Program for Japanese Doctors

Australian General Practice is recognised as being one of the best primary care systems in the world and Australian GP training is recognised in the literature as being world-class. GP Education Australia Ltd (GPEA) is the education and training company of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), which is the peak professional and standard setting body for General Practice and Family Medicine in Australia. GPEA has over 25 years of experience in vocational training for GPs through the GP Training Program and is Australia’s largest specialist provider of education and training for General Practice.

GPEA is working with GPs in a number of countries to develop an improved understanding about the role of GPs and Family Medicine practitioners. Family Medicine in Australia is an annual short-course program offered in Australia for Japanese Family Medicine practitioners, GP teachers and students. GPEA has already hosted two very successful programs - in August 2002 and in July 2003. Family Medicine in Australia is a comprehensive one week program facilitated by experienced Australian GPs with special skills in medical education and GP supervision. Topics include:

  • The nature and history of General Practice in Australia and internationally
  • The style of Australian GPs clinical consultation
  • The Australian Health-care system
  • GP/Family Medicine teaching
  • General Practice training and employment in Australia

The program combines lecture style sessions with interactive sessions using case studies and role plays as well as visits to a variety of clinics and community health centres. A short social and tour program is included. All sessions are presented in English with Japanese language interpreter services.
