The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) is providing online education to general practitioners to assist them in delivering pregnancy advice and support to patients.
The new education activity will meet mandatory training requirements for general practitioners wishing to use the new Medicare Benefits Schedule item 4001, released on 1 November 2006. The Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing has funded the development of this activity.
The learning activity consists of one three hour learning activity including:
- Introduction and pre-reading
- BASK (behaviour, attitude, skills and knowledge) questions to determine participants’ views about this subject area; results of which will be used to direct further learning
- A comparison between non directive and directive counselling
- Links to support documentation
- A presentation about non directive counselling, specifically related to pregnancy
- Material for further reading and further information and support
A follow up assessment activity will consist of 25 Multiple Choice Questions and will have a pass mark of 80 percent.
By completing the learning activity, doctors will be eligible for Category 2 Quality Assurance and Continuing Professional Development (QA&CPD) points. The activity is recognised as a Women’s Health activity within the RACGP QA&CPD Program
* Both the first learning activity and the assessment component are now fully available on gplearning.
